The May 2022 General Synod (18th) rejected both a Sydney-led motion declaring same-sex marriage contrary to church teaching (blocked by the House of Bishops 12-10 against, despite Laity 63-47 and Clergy 70-39 in favour) and, the following day, a motion that would have approved same-sex marriage.

Clergy in same-sex relationships: Varies by diocese. Sydney and aligned dioceses do not ordain clergy in same-sex relationships; other dioceses have wider practice. Diocese of Sydney also does not ordain women to the priesthood.
